The Rh factor is an inherited antigen, most commonly the D antigen, located on the surface of red blood cells. Individuals who have this protein are classified as Rh-positive, while those who lack it are Rh-negative.
The Rh factor is determined through a blood test and is commonly assessed alongside the ABO blood group system. It plays a crucial role in blood transfusions and pregnancy management, as incompatibility between Rh-negative and Rh-positive blood can trigger immune reactions.
